This book is among Imam Ibn al-Jawzi’s famous books; it is included in the list of his books preaching moderation and right guidance, mixed with masterpieces of ascetic poetry and mysticism, which ranks it as one of the books dictated in Hadith councils.
The book consists of five chapters. The first one examines the sciences of the Qur’an, and it is distinguished by the section that discusses the Qur’anic terms that hold more than one meaning. The second one deals with the Arabic language and its unusual expressions. The third one talks about the science of Hadith and the Prophet’s biography, and the necessary knowledge to distinguish between the companions. The Fourth one is dedicated to some prominent figures in history, in which he mentioned the wonders of agreements and concurrences, and included lists of plagues and earthquakes, from the beginning of Islam until his era.
