Majma’ Al-Zawa-id is a prominent example of the al-Zawa’id methodology of Hadith collection. It contains Hadith extracted from Musnad Ahmad, Musnad Abu Ya’la, the Musnad al-Bazzar, and three of At-Tabarani’s collections: Al-Mu’jam al-Kabir, Al-Mu’jam Al-Awsat and Al-Mu’jam As-Saghir.
In the introduction, the Hafidh al-Haythami said:
"My teacher and mentor, prominent scholar of East and West, Sheikh Zayn al-Din Abu al-Fadl Abdul Rahim Ibn al-Iraqi, may Allah be pleased with him and grant him Paradise, said: “Collect these classified books and delete their Isnaad, so that the Ahadith of each category may be assembled in one category.” So I spent my time in collecting them..."
It is a huge book of Sunan collection that contains many of the Ahadith, of which the collector has paid great attention; until it became more than 18,700 Hadith. Al-Haythami provides commentary on the authenticity of each Hadith and evaluates some of the narrators. Not only that, but he gave his rulings upon the Hadith he graded and sometimes talked about defect in the Hadith. Majma’ al-Zawa’id is arranged in the manner of a Sunan collection, by topical chapter titles relating to jurisprudence.
