The book is useful as an introduction to pre-Islamic poetry.
It begins with a summary of the geography of the Arabian Peninsula and each of the political, social, mental and religious life of its pre-Islamic population. Jahiliyyah is seen by the author, not as promoted by many writers and authors as being opposite to knowledge, but rather opposite to tolerance.
The first chapter was devoted to issues of pre-Islamic poetry such as poetry narrators, the issue of plagiarism, the response to Taha Hussein, and a word on Al-Mu’allaqaat (The Suspended Odes).
In the second chapter, the author discusses the characteristics of pre-Islamic poetry; he explains the then nomadic aspect of the poetry, its clarity and realism, then he talks about the structure of the poem and highlights the thematic unit of the poem.
The third chapter discusses the arts of pre-Islamic poetry, which are: Al-Ghazal (love poetry), enthusiasm, pride, lamentation, satire, description, and finally wisdom.
