Al-Mudawanah is a founding book of Madh-hab of Imam Malik ibn Anas. It is a set of questions and answers on issues of jurisprudence received by Imam Malik, and it was narrated by Abd As-Salam Ibn Saeed At-Tanoukhi, nicknamed Sahnun (240 AH / 854 AD), who compiled and classified it, and narrated it on the authority of Abd Ar-Rahman Ibn al-Qasim al-Atqi (191 AH / 806 AD) on the authority of Imam Malik Ibn Anas. It is attributed sometimes to Sahnoun, because he narrated it, so it is labelled after him “Mudawwanat Sahnun.”
The Mudawwanah contains the opinions of Imam Malik Ibn Anas, which were narrated from him and based on his jurisprudential principles, and the opinions of some of his companions, with some narrations and Ahadiths that were mentioned on issues of the Maliki jurisprudence.
