Fath al-Fattah ala Mukhtasar Sheikh Khalil - Ibn Rahal al-Ma’dani
فتح الفتاح على مختصر الشيخ خليل - القاضي الحسن بن رحال المعداني
This huge book has reached a total of 71 volumes. It is an encyclopaedic commentary on Sheikh Khalil’s Abbreviation of Maliki jurisprudence. The author, may Allah have mercy on him, has collected all the texts of the Malikite school of Islamic jurisprudence and the texts of the Maliki Imams in the eras that existed between him and Imam Malik, until scholars said: “He almost did not miss a text from the texts of the Malikite school of Islamic jurisprudence.”
This significant achievement is regarded as the result of collective effort overseen by the scholar Ibn Rahaal al-Ma’daani al-Tadlawi, who died in 1140 AH. It is a scientific tradition carried out by the best scholars and has a counterpart in the history of Islamic sciences.
Dr. Ahmed Abadi has explained that this book/encyclopaedia “is considered a symbol of the great Alawite state, as Sultan Ismail had commissioned scholars, led by the great scholar al-Ma’dani, to collect fatwa and Islamic rulings according to the rules and principles of the Maliki school of thought.”
The value of this remarkable explanation of Sheikh Khalil's Mukhtasar stems from the fact that it is a scientific treasury in itself, with a multitude of literature, footnotes, revisions, appendices, and jurisprudential edits that are uncommon in others. This constitutes a text that highlights the extent of the richness of the Maliki school of thought in dealing with current controversial issues.
