Al-Minha as-Saniyyah fi Sharh al-Lamhah al-Badriyyah fi Ilm al-Arabiyyah
المنحة السنية في شرح اللمحة البدرية في علم العربية لأبي حيان الأندلسي
Imam Abu Hayyan Al-Andalusi’s (d. 745 AH) writings achieved a great reputation in the study of language. A small treatise titled “Al-Lamha Al-Badriyyah fi Ilm Al-Arabiyyah” was one of his most notable works. It is one of the grammatical texts that is considered a foundation for all educational levels, in which Abu Hayyan limited himself to the fundamental chapters in grammar without going into points of contention.
More than one grammarian has explained it, and foremost among them was his student, the Imam and author of “Umdat as-Salik,” Shihab al-Din Ahmed Ibn Lu’lu’ Ibn an-Naqib ash-Shafi’i (d. 769 AH). His explanation is being printed for the first time; in it Ibn an-Naqib sought to solve the ambiguous terms in “Al-Lamha”. He starts his book by citing the text of “Al-Lamha”, and then proceeds to explain its terminologies and phrases, correcting what he missed, so that he has completed the whole texts of “Al-Lamha”. Ibn Al-Naqib drew his scientific material from grammatical literature in general and the books of two Imams in particular: Abi Hayyan and Ibn Malik.
The honourable editor took great care in explaining this, so she wrote an introduction to Abu Hayyan’s life and book, Ibn al-Naqib’s life and his book, and concluded it with a number of indexes that disclose its hidden content for students.
