This is a brief history of the Sunnah from the Prophetic era to the modern age, highlighting scholars' efforts in preserving it and introducing its most famous works.
Hani Ahmad Faqih, a professor of Hadith at the Islamic University, wanted to write a book that compiles the history of Sunnah for students in the Faculty of Hadith. He gathered material that aligns with the course curriculum and added insights from his teaching experience and readings.
The book's chapters are organized according to the historical stages of Sunnah documentation. The first chapter covers the Prophetic era and the Rightly Guided Caliphate, addressing the companions' quranic manuscripts and refuting orientalists' doubts in this area. The second chapter spans from the Rightly Guided Caliphate to the end of the third century, discussing well-known compilations and their authors. The third and longest chapter goes from the third century to the modern era. The book also brings together summaries from later scholars who wrote about the history of Sunnah.
