Bidayatu al-Hidayah - Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (505H)
بداية الهداية - أبو حامد الغزالي
Bidayatu al-Hidayah is a book by Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali; it is considered a preface to the book Ihya’ ‘Ulum ad-Din. Al-Ghazali divided it into two parts:
It’s a book on Tassawuf, meaning here: the forms of obedience, the etiquette of sleeping, waking up, entering the toilet, performing ablution, washing, performing tayammum, entering and leaving the mosque, the period after sunrise till noon, and the etiquette of preparing for the prescribed prayer, which are the foundation of the religion, and one of the pillars of Islam. He mentioned matters related to the Imamate, such as following the Imam in prayer, the Sunnah acts of Friday and Fasting. He also talked about avoiding sins, in which he explains sins of the heart, and that they are more dangerous than sins of body parts, and the etiquettes of companionship with the Creator - glory be to Him - and with mankind.
