Imam Ibn al-Qayyim - may Allah Almighty have mercy on him - singled out most of the book to explain the meaning of ar-Ramiy (Archery) and its status and virtue in Islam, the virtue of competition, wrestling and fighting. Nevertheless, he expanded the jurisprudential researches related to the organisation of competitions between contestants and wrestlers, the betting contract between them and the permissibility of introducing the permitted between them, the evidence of those who claim permissibility and those who claim prohibition, the types of matches and contests, what is permissible in them and what is not permissible. Then he mentions the different jurisprudential branching of the different schools of thought on these issues.
The author demonstrates in the book the various sorts of horsemanship, its ranks and tools, as well as the sayings and acts of many virtuous ancestors in horsemanship, and demonstrates information about horsemanship that only those active in horsemanship are aware of. He accurately describes the character of the archer, the method of archery and its limits, the quality of the bow, the arrow and the spear, quoting from the early jurists, and how their archery, their machines, and their skill in this field, which indicates the chivalry of our righteous predecessors, their courage, and their willingness to jihad for the sake of Allah.
